Elk Hunting In Wyoming's Backcountry

Our success of hunting elk is exceptionally high due largely to the close proximity to Yellowstone. The  Washakie Wilderness of the Shoshone National Forest is home to thousands of Big Horn Sheep, Moose, Elk, Deer, Black Bear, Wolves and Grizzly Bear.  It is a spectacular area that will take your breath away every minute you're in it.  We have four permanent camp sites to accommodate your every hunting need.  We strive to fulfill every hunter's dream of a large trophy class animal but most of all, see to it you have a great experience every day and leave with a big smile on your face.

Two hunting camps near Dubois, Wyoming are in hunt area 67 for elk and area 4 & 5 for Big Horn Sheep. Here the elk migrate from Yellowstone and find their way into this valley. We see a variety of elk and with more timber and many small meadows, this area is a haven for the archery or the avid rifle hunter. The Emerald Creek Camp is seven miles from the trail head and sets in some of the most scenic and richest Big Horn Sheep and Elk Country in Wyoming. Just further up the river six miles to the Wiggins Fork Camp at 9,420 feet elevation, we use it in Big Horn Sheep season, archery elk and early Rifle elk season until the snow gets too deep and then we drop down to either the Emerald Creek Camp or to the trail head.

General Bull Season - October 1st thru October 31st.
The Dubois area is well known for a good bull elk hunt. You will see a variety of bulls in this area. Because of the timbered area and small meadows the bull's have good cover, feed and water and stay in the area. You will hunt from our tent camps. We furnish you with 12' x 14' tents, stoves in each tent; cook tent, camp cook, wrangler, riding mules and packing mules. We will pack your game out to the trail head or back to Dubois.

Archery Season - September 1st thru the 30th.
With the right weather to encourage the elk to get into their rut, this area is an archer's dream. You will hunt from our tent camps. We furnish you with wall tents, stoves in each tent; cook tent, camp cook, wrangler, mules and pack mules. We will pack your game out to the trail head.

Our guided archery hunters usually have at least one good opportunity at 40 yards or less. Depending on your shooting ability and lady luck the archery hunters should have the chance at a good clean shot at elk. We have many hunters join us on these hunts and the archer that can shoot very well should have no trouble beating the states average of 10 to 15% kill ratio.

Limited Quota Season
Hunt area's 63 & 64 are in the South Fork of the Wood River  and the Cottonwood Camp.  The Wood River Camp is just a 9 mile ride into camp in elk area 63 and deer area 117, you can hunt some of the finest trophy class bull elk in the northwest. Then over the ridge we run our Cottonwood Camp in elk area 64, deer area 118 & 119.  It is about a four mile ride to a beautiful campsite where we have some great bull elk and average deer.

Cow Elk Hunts - November 1 thru December 15th or into January
The hunting area has a large number of cow elk in the area and because of this, there are a number of cow permits issued for these areas. Although we can not guarantee you will take a cow on these hunts, you would have to be the unluckiest hunter we have ever had if you don't have the opportunity to shoot at a cow elk. These hunts are great for the hunter who wishes to have a good elk for eating. They are wonderful father/mother and son/daughter hunts.

You will stay in a motel in town, we recommend the Longhorn Motel & RV in Dubois, or the Irma Hotel in Cody. Each morning we will leave the motel, we will provide you with a lunch and each evening we will return you back to the motel. You will be responsible for your breakfast and dinner meals, and motel expenses. We will furnish you with transportation to and from town to our hunting area, mules or horses to get off the beaten path if needed and a good and knowledgeable guide. We will pack your game out to the trail head or back to town.
